Comparative Analysis of Automatic Parallelization Techniques

Muntha SR, Prasad A, Gogineni K, Nikhil L and Harshavardhan VL

With multicore design emerging as the chief design pattern for the microprocessor industry in a major way constant efforts are being made to improve its performance. The only way to extract maximum performance from a multicore based system as of now is through the automatic extraction of threads from sequential applications with the assistance of tools including, compilers and runtime optimizers. The increasing popularity of clusters and other similar forms of distributed computing calls for the requirement of automatic parallelization in compilers. This requirement for techniques through which automatic parallelization can be achieved has set of the development of various different methods with varying efficiencies. The objective of this paper is to test the efficiencies of two such techniques by performing a comparative analysis of the techniques based on various criteria like time complexity for instance. The techniques we are going to work on are namely the Scalar and Array Analysis technique and the Smith waterman technique. As mentioned previously these techniques will be analyzed using various criteria to arrive at a conclusion as to which one of them is superior performance wise.

Blast-i2b2: Blast for Biological Sequence Comparison in i2b2 Platform

Alaa Alarfaj, Ghada Badr, Mohy Uddin

Finding the similarities between biological sequences is an important process to analyze these sequences. The similarity between biological sequences can be determined by using sequence alignment methods. BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) is a searching tool, which is designed to perform the sequence alignment process. The current BLAST platform compares a biological sequence with a biological sequences database, lists the similar results, and gives the user the ability to download these results to the local machine without storing those results in a form like data repository or data warehouse, thus lacking reusability and further updates of results. In this paper, we introduce BLAST-i2b2, which implements the BLAST on the i2b2 platform, stores BLAST results, and updates the stored result whenever there are changes in the target biological sequence database. A data warehouse is provided that can be used to efficiently store BLAST-i2b2 results, where it can be used for further analysis and faster updates. In addition, the paper presents the i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside) platform and the update BLAST algorithm. The paper also shows the testing of BLAST-i2b2 performance against three different database sizes. The results show that BLAST-i2b2 update process reduces the BLAST run time to 84% for the small database size, 93% for the medium database size, and 97% for the big database size. The sequence analysis part is not within the scope of this paper and it will be taken into account for the future work.

Connectier (Home Appliances Controlling System)

Dulith Fernando D, Dharmawardhana MP, Sameera PP, Silva ND and Chinthaka J

In 21st century, Smart home concept is playing a major role in day to day life and lives also are much more dependent on electronic devices and smart refrigerator is very popular and attention seeking among these home appliances. Home automation has been increasing vastly in the past years due to much simplicity and affordability for home appliances. Earlier home automation systems were based on technologies like Bluetooth, ZigBee, Z wave and remotely controlled using GSM networks. Currently IOT technology is widely used in home automation which will allow users to control hardware devices through the internet. Smart refrigerators are major part of home automation. Current smart refrigerators come as a single component (as whole complete fridge), which is quite expensive and not affordable for everyone. This research presents a more affordable and useful way to keep track of the food items in the refrigerator using consumption trackers which come as add-ons. The automated approach of controlling the home appliances through mobile and web applications could ease the task using the IOT technology. Because of popularity and flexibility in Android operating system, this mobile application is based on android. The need of a simple and elegant way to keep track of the food items in the refrigerator is the major requirement of this research. A more simple way of allowing people the freedom of having complete control of their home appliances from anywhere is another requirement of this research. Therefore, implementing consumption trackers that can be kept inside the refrigerator, receiving notifications according to the consumption of food items, keeping track of them and a home automation system that reduces energy consumption, protects home environment from secondary effect are the purposes of this research. The result of this research, web and Cloud based home automation system that is flexible and scalable with wide range of home appliances, will promote the growth of IOT. Proposed Home Automation System will help to improve the standard of living at home and allow increasing work efficiency in future.

Automatic Fire Detecting System: FLAMES (Fire Location and Management E-System)

Rahul Narang, Balendra Singh, Vishad Mehta and Chaitanya Gujjar

Fire safety is the set of practices intended to reduce the destruction caused by fire. Threats to fire safety are commonly referred to as fire hazards. The major advantage of having a well versed fire safety plan is that it enables the fire-fighters to know more about the location of the fire and the possible reasons can be figured out, as per these reasons fire safety and fire rescue methods can be efficiently applied. The advent of technology in every aspect of life, modernization involves from providing real time fire alarming smart signals to a variety of related activities that come along with the various day to day fire station activities that are considered under “pre-plan” before any emergency occurs.

B-WSD Approach and Validation: Use Satisfaction Survey

Messaoud WB

Web service discovery deals with the satisfaction problem facing consumer requirements. In literature, some approaches have addressed the issue of discovery without considering the consumer requirements or the runtime environment. Faced with the complexity of consumer needs and diversity of responses on the web, the consumer hardly selects the service that satisfies him. Thus, B-WSD (Behavioral Web Service Discovery) approach is the solution that we provide in this context, the principle is to conceive a discovery system that meets consumer expectations and filters provider offerings to achieve a satisfaction compromise between these two actors.
