Mechanical Properties Investigation on M40 Grade Cement Concrete by Utilization of Waste Plastic and Crumbled Rubber

Bopparaju Maheshbabu

Waste plastic and crumb rubber is an industrial by product; they possess the problem of disposal as waste and is of environmental concern. In the present era, demand for aggregate in construction industry is increasing rapidly and so, is the demand for cement concrete. Thus, these waste materials become important to seek suitable alternatives for aggregates in future development. My thesis will study the natural coarse aggregate were partially replaced with crumb rubber and waste plastic as aggregate at various proportions like 0, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% to find the optimum usage value of crumb rubber in concrete and the natural coarse aggregate is partially replaced with waste plastic at various proportions of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% in the obtained optimum value of concrete. Experiment was conducted on M40 grade concrete to determine the compressive strength, split tensile strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The results were compared with Traditional concrete.

Assessment of Stormwater Drainage System for Small Urban Watershed: A Case of Shambu Town, Oromia Region, Ethiopia

Habtamu Tamiru Dagne and Meseret Wagari Bortola

Stormwater runoff in a small urban watershed is one of the major challenging issues facing many countries where financial capacity is very weak to provide sufficient drainage systems. This study aims to assess the stormwater drainage system in the small urban watershed as a case study of Shambu town, Oromia Region, Ethiopia. The main objective of this study was to assess whether this excess stormwater runoff is due to hydrological change or insufficient hydraulic design of the existing drainage system in the town. The existing drainage system in this small urban watershed was analyzed by statistical analysis and the main purpose of this was to know whether the designed drainage systems were sufficient hydraulically. The existing drainage system in this small urban watershed was analyzed by statistical analysis and the main purpose of this was to know whether the designed drainage systems were sufficient hydraulically. The existing design document was taken in this analysis and field analysis also made to check whether the drainage was constructed according to the specification. The area also analyzed hydrologically by delineating the watershed using ArcSWAT and the peak discharge was computed the outlet of the watershed using Rational method. Some data such runoff coefficient and manning’s values were also generated from the watershed based on the reality on the ground. The two results from hydrological and hydraulic models were compared and that of peak discharge obtained from rational method became greater than of the Peak discharge obtained from existing drainage measurement. Therefore, in this study it was concluded that since the watershed is steep in slope, it is contributing additional runoff to this small urban watershed, additional new 50% of the existing drainage system and rehabilitation works should be implemented to modify the draining capacity of the existing scheme. Additionally, managing and improper construction alignment problem in the existing system were identified, so to control this challenge periodic cleaning and modification of slope is recommended.

A Research Study Done on the Adaptation of Building Information Modelling in Various Fields of a Construction Project

Gauthami Krishna

The growing use of Building Information Modelling in the construction as an emerging concept is a digital approach replacing traditional approaches gradually. With the changing scenario in the industry with the introduction of technology, the adoption of BIM has brought forth many a debates among professionals. With the growing technological advancements, there is also a growing need for knowledge; hence many professionals and researchers are working on various aspects of research in various fields of BIM. The paper aims to review the amount of research done on the use and adoption of BIM in various fields of construction project. By examining 130 publications from various sources, a cumulative analysis of the fields of research and progression in publication has been studied and established. The results got henceforth from the paper indicate a progressive increase in the research done in various fields of construction projects.

Pushover Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Pier Designed as Per IRC-6 Codal Provision

Mohammad Farhan and Mohd Tasleem

The seismic evaluation for the damage caused by ground motion to existing bridges has attracted focus of structural engineers in recent years. It is the first step towards curbing loss of life and property. Most of the reinforced concrete bridges in India were designed as per previous building codes. Those codes seldom accounted for large seismic motions and were insufficient to sustain the seismic loads acting laterally. It is necessary to evaluate damages caused to already constructed bridges. In this paper nonlinear static (pushover) method is focused for performing seismic analysis of RCC Bridge. It is conceptually easier to understand and model and requires low time for computation. Major advancement in pushover analysis procedures is seen in last 10 years and it has led to its introduction to international codes/guidelines for seismic analysis. The pier are subjected to dead load, live load and seismic loading and designed as per IRC-6 2012. The study aimed to determine the seismic performance of the typical reinforced concrete bridge pier designed as per Indian codes with displacement based pushover analysis approach.
